Top priorities remain fiscal accountability, equal representation, and student achievement.
Coquitlam, BC - Carol Cahoon is running for re-election as a Coquitlam School Trustee in the October 20 municipal election.
Carol has resided with her family in the Tri-Cities for 22 years in the Como Lake area. She and her husband are the parents of two SD43 students, who participated in both the Montessori and French Immersion programs.
As a first term SD43 School Board Trustee, Carol served as Vice-Chair, Audit and Finance Committee member, as well as an SD43 representative for the BCSTA Metro Board, BC Public School Employers Association, Student Leadership Council, and District Parent Advisory Council.
“I love what I do in support of students, staff and the community! I have engaged with hundreds of SD43 colleagues and met thousands of students and parents while attending school and community events.”
If elected a second term, Carol wishes to continue multi-year financial planning strategies that will maintain stability in the School District. She believes that openness, greater fiscal accountability, fair and equal representation, questioning, communication, and knowledge will help prevent future deficits.
“Since 2014, I have put forward new energy, ideas and solutions,” Carol continued. “We eliminated annual budget overruns and paid off the $13.4 million deficit a year earlier than anticipated, and approved advancing funds to modernize, replace and upgrade facilities. I hope to continue working with other Trustees in keeping the board fiscally sound.”
In addition to Carol’s top priorities, she remains focused on modern and safe schools, mental health support, resources in classrooms, and strong student outcomes.
“I have heard from the community, teachers, and support staff, that a School Trustee should be an impartial and independent advocate, so they can best represent the needs of all stakeholders and work collaboratively with the Provincial Government, five municipalities, and within the Board of Education.”
Carol’s community involvement includes Acting-President - Children of the Street Society, Director - Coquitlam Foundation, and Member - Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers.
